Mayor, HUD to Announce Innovative Partnership to Enhance City’s Community Development Activities

Who: Mayor Annise Parker
         U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18)
         Assistant Secretary Mercedes Marquez, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

What: Mayor Parker and Assistant Secretary Marquez will announce and formalize a technical assistance and capacity-building partnership between the City and HUD. This engagement will provide the City’s Housing and Community Development Department with an unprecedented amount of federal resources to assist with a variety of activities, including: establishing an equity fund to leverage private investment in neighborhood revitalization efforts; creating a comprehensive and sustainable community development strategy; and improving the City’s use of federal funds to revitalize neighborhoods, help the homeless and produce more affordable housing.
